In an information-rich half-hour conversation, Kellen and Lacey discuss the high-profile topic of ESG Investing, also called Values Investing. ESG, literally, Environmental-Social-Governance, refers to the practice of aligning financial investing with personal values.
As Lacey explained, “Environmental is pretty straightforward, investors looking to incorporate environmental considerations within their investment portfolios. And then we’ll go to the end. We’ll say the G stands for governance, which is looking at how companies are run, how they’re managing risks, how they’re paying their executives, and what kinds of policies are in place to protect shareholders.
“And then the S is social, which can really run the gamut. Investors looking to incorporate social considerations within their investments that could be faith-based exclusions from company products, how companies are impacting their employees, and various aspects of the community, either through the running of their company or through the products that they produce. So, a lot of different types of considerations can go into that. But in general, ESG investing investors, go into ESG investing because they want to see their personal values, whatever they may be, reflected within their investments.”
