“Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it.”Benjamin Franklin
Ben Franklin was certainly someone who had a lot of thoughts on wealth and success, and by all accounts, he knew how to enjoy both to the fullest.
It’s no secret that wealthy individuals tend to be better at playing the long game when it comes to maintaining that wealth and achieving success in professional and personal life.
Success at the long game means individuals are able to visualize where they want to be – months and even years from now – and are taking calculated steps to reach those visions or goals.
Have you ever considered where you want to be in the future, and what wealth and success means to you?
In our newsletter, How Playing the Long Game Could Help Build Wealth and Success, we review the process of creating your vision and ways to obtain your ideal future.
To provide you with an idea of the concepts you will read in the newsletter, let’s start at the end. That’s right, the end.
By thinking of your vision, you are literally starting at your “endgame”. The place where you see yourself and your family in the future. It could be that you are retired living in a beach house in the Caribbean or building a business with multiple locations to pass down to your children. Whatever wealth and success look like to you, you have to start at the end and work backwards to help figure out how to get there.
When you create a vision, it provides you the “why you do what you do”. Your vision provides purpose. In addition, end goals have other benefits such as:
Keeping you highly mobilized and motivated.
According to Psychology Today, “Setting goals is linked with self-confidence, motivation, and autonomy”.

With every vision or plan, there will always be obstacles. You will need to analyze possible obstacles that could stand in your way to achieving your vision for your life. The closer the obstacle is to your vision the more motivated you will be to overcome it.
The Journal of Experimental Psychology showed that goals that you are highly tied to emotionally can cause individuals to perceive obstacles as less significant than they might appear otherwise.
Developing and Executing a Plan for Wealth and Success
Whenever you what to reach a goal, you should develop a well-established plan. One formula to help: “intermediate goals + thoughtful plans = end goals”. A plan should have intermediate goals that are reachable so you can continue your momentum and take the next steps to reach your end goal.
After developing a plan and obtainable goals, it is time to put it into action. There is no time like the present to start creating the vision you have for yourself and your family. Once you put your plan into motion, you will find that reaching each milestone in your plan will give you the confidence to continue toward the long game.
Key Items to Help During Your Journey
There are items to keep in mind when on your journey to reaching wealth and success. One of those key items is having perseverance. Once you take the initial steps toward your vision, having perseverance during the long game will assist in pushing through. It will take time to reach your goals and it will be up to you to stay the course. When you hit an obstacle, it will be vital to find the strength to keep moving forward.
