Understanding Impact Investing
Impact investing is a term you hear a lot these days. You may also hear people talking about socially responsible investing, and even ESG investing, which stands for environmental, social, and governance driven investing.
All of these terms describe the idea of “doing well by doing good” and more specifically speak to aligning your investment strategy with the socially or environmentally responsible causes that are most meaningful to you. In fact, investors have reported that impact investing has made their experience more personally fulfilling.
In our recent Harvesting Prosperity newsletter, “Qualified Opportunity Funds. The latest way to do well by doing good.” we look at how Qualified Opportunity Funds provide a way for investors to be part of socially responsible investing while at the same time realizing return and valued tax incentives.
“Qualified Opportunity Funds invest in properties in economically distressed communities categorized as Qualified Opportunity Zones, which have been targeted for economic development.”
Zones are nominated by each state. Although Qualified Opportunity Funds provide you the opportunity to invest in economically challenged or declining areas that are geographically near you, you are not limited as to where you choose to invest.
As you’ll read in our newsletter, these funds are usually set up as partnerships or corporations and can involve a range of different property types including multi-family homes, single-family homes, or start up businesses. The newsletter even takes you through two scenarios as case studies that show the potential benefits of Qualified Opportunity Funds as part of your investment strategy.
